Felines
Rabies vaccinations are a legal requirement in the state of Virginia. Rabies is 100% fatal. This vaccine is given every year.
FVRCP is considered a core vaccination for all felines, even if they do not go outside. This vaccination protects from Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Feline Calicivirus, and Feline Panleukopenia which are highly contagious and dangerous illnesses. This vaccination is given every 3-4 weeks until pet is 16 weeks old, at that point they receive a 1 year vaccine. After that, they will receive a 3 year vaccine.
The Feline Leukemia vaccination is recommended for all young cats (under one year) as they are more susceptible to infection due to their age. It is also recommended for any adult cats who regularly make trips outside. This vaccine requires one additional booster, and is then given every two years.
We recommend annual labwork for all patients. This allows us to establish a baseline for all patients, which in turn allows early detection of any issues that may arise as your pet ages. We recommend heartworm testing for felines even if they are indoor only, as heartworm disease is spread by mosquitoes that can come into the home.
We recommend a fecal test for all feline patients.
We recommend checking a blood pressure every 6 months for senior felines (over 8 years old).
Canines
We require annual heartworm testing for continued prescribing of preventatives.
We recommend an annual fecal test for all canine patients.
We recommend checking a blood pressure every 6 months for seniors (over 8 years old).
If you give your pet Proheart 12, we recommend Simparica for monthly flea and tick prevention.
