What the Pheromones?!

If you have had a Vets to Pets Housecall, you may have seen us reach for our pheromone sprays Feliway and Adaptil! These are pheromone sprays designed for each species. Pheromones can be used to communicate positive and comforting “messages” to your pet via scent. These pheromones are bottled up and are available to use in many different forms!

Feliway is the pheromone product for felines. While we use the spray version for convenience, they also offer diffusers for your home for long term use! Feliway is also available in the form of a wipe that you can use for certain areas of your home that may stress your cat, such as their cat carrier. There are different formulations of Feliway for cats with general anxiety or undesirable habits, or for multi-cat households where there may be underlying aggression issues. 

Adaptil is our go-to pheromone product for canines! Adaptil also comes in many different formats such as diffusers, wipes, and even collars for long term use! There are different forms of Adaptil for different situations as well, such as traveling, puppyhood, or general anxiety issues. 

Pheromone sprays are not prescription medications, and can be purchased at most pet stores! While we love pheromone sprays, they may not be the only thing your pet needs if they are suffering from behavioral issues. If you are having behavioral issues with your pet, we recommend scheduling an appointment with your veterinarian for further evaluation to ensure there is not an underlying medical issue.
